Using a 3 Fairway Wood

The first fairway wood used a club head literally made of wood, thus the name. It was not until the 1980's that they made some changes and eventually the wood club evolved. Through the years, the materials for making fairway woods have varied from steel to titanium. Now, fairway woods are often called fairway metals including the 3 fairway wood. Fairway wood usage usually comes after hitting the ball with a driver on a tee shot. The wood clubs usually replaces the use of your long irons for the long fairway shot. They can hit high, straight, and accurate and can stop quickly.

3 Wood Differences

The difference between a 3 wood from a 5 fairway wood is that the 3 wood has a 13-16 degree loft and goes lower than the 5 wood. The 5 wood has a loft of 17-21 degrees and has a shorter distance than the 3 wood or even the 4 fairway wood. Hitting with a 3 wood can give a low ball flight but with an accurate distance if hit properly. Golfers usually use them in place of 3 or 4 irons for that long par.

The 3 fairway wood is the second largest club you see inside a golfer's golf bag. They have shorter shafts than the driver, and smaller heads that makes it easy to hit. The 3 wood goes 20 yards farther than the 5 wood, the 5 wood otherwise is similar to the 4 iron when distance is concerned. This really depends on the power of the golf swing and swing speed the golfer has. A 7 fairway wood and the 9 fairway wood are seldom found in a golfer's bag, although women are recommended to have them. The 7 fairway wood was designed to have a smaller club head than conventional utility wood clubs.

There are a lot of hot selling golf clubs on the market today. You can visit your local golf shop to check some of the wining fairway woods they offer. There are a lot of brands to choose from which varies in design and value.

The first brand to consider and try out is the Callaway X Tour 3 wood. It features two distinctive points to dampen rocking at address to have more alignment. The Variable Face Thickness (VFT) allows maximum ball speed and it has penetrating trajectory for more shot control. The Great Big Bertha II 3 wood is one of them. It has a titanium face design and acts as a little driver. It is wider and longer than the Big Bertha titanium 3 wood.

The Cobra Comp 3 wood is also a choice you want to consider. Cobra has conveyed driver technology into wood technology with this 3 fairway wood by utilizing a carbon crown with a titanium face and a durable steel soleplate. This moves the weight to the club head for a higher ball flight and longer distance. Another brand not to be looked over is Ping. The Ping 3 woods introduced the five-club series with the G-5 fairway wood. It has a large stainless steel head and a 455 steel face to combine accuracy and distance in one club. The Adams RPM 3 wood is also made of a titanium face and sole with a carbon composite crown. Adams also inserted a tungsten- steel at the sole to increase MOI and playability.

To Sum Up. . .

If you think buying new clubs could cost you a fortune, you can search for used clubs. Used fairway woods are sold in many golf shops or even the internet. They cost less than that of a new set. You can have a pre-owned club in mint condition for as low as $100 for a 3 fairway wood if you know where to look. Using pre-owned clubs is not that bad. Most of them are in good shape, all you have to change are the fairway wood grips. So look around and shop wisely. Read more reviews to know which club is right for you.
